Steelworks craneway opening
Fold-up door beneath a live crane rail: 0.9 m headroom, no loss of hook height, no rail modification.
The opening
A craneway opening in a rolling mill, with 0.9 m between the lintel and the underside of a live crane rail. A sectional door needs that space for the panel to turn over. A fold-up leaf does not — it stacks to one side of the opening and leaves the hook height where it was.
Why the fold-up family
Rebuilding a craneway to fit a door is a shutdown, and a shutdown in a rolling mill is measured in production, not in days. The door was specified around the constraint instead: 0.9 m of headroom, no rail modification, no clear height lost under the hook.
Working around production
- Installed across two night shifts, with the bay handed back each morning.
- Frame and guides galvanised — the atmosphere in the bay is not kind to raw steel.
- Class 4 under EN 12424: inland site, sheltered elevation, taken from the terrain category.
